TRICOR
(Also known as Lipidil Supra in Canada)
In addition to a complete (probably low fat) diet and exercise program, TriCor offers a targeted approach to cholesterol management.
It increases good cholesterol
(HDL) and reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) in patients with high LDL (a condition called primary
hypercholesterolemia) or high LDL and high triglycerides (called mixed
dyslipidemia). It also reduces triglycerides in patients with high triglycerides (a condition called
hypertriglyceridemia).
The effect of TriCor on health risks from coronary heart disease has not been determined. The effect of raising good cholesterol or lowering triglycerides on health risk from coronary heart disease has not been determined.

Guidelines for TRICOR
While you are taking the medication, your doctor may want to check your blood every 4 to 8 weeks. This can help determine if you are taking the appropriate dosage.
The tablets should be taken with a meal.
If you forget to take one of your doses at the scheduled time, go ahead and take it as soon as you remember (with a meal or snack). However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. DO NOT take a double dose. If you have any questions, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
* Store TriCor Tablets in a safe, dry place; tightly closed; out of reach of children.
* Store it at controlled room temperature (59°-86°F).
* Protect it from moisture.
* DO NOT put it in your bathroom medicine cabinet if moisture may be present.
Who should not take TRICOR?
The medication is not for everyone. It should not be taken by people with serious liver or kidney disease, gallbladder disease, or those who may be allergic or sensitive to the drug.
TriCor may sometimes cause changes in liver chemistry reports from the laboratory. Your doctor should order regular periodic liver tests while you take TriCor. Some people who take
it develop gallstones. You should call your doctor if you feel pain in the abdominal area while taking
it because this can be a sign of gallstones. The medication may cause muscle pain or serious muscle disease in some patients. If you feel muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness while taking
the medication, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Other side effects may include respiratory symptoms, back pain, and headache. These should also be reported to your doctor.
You should let your doctor know if you are taking any other drugs while you are taking TriCor Tablets.
It may have an effect on drugs that help prevent blood clotting, such as CoumadinŽ (warfarin sodium tablets, USP, DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company). If you are taking TriCor with a blood-thinning drug, your doctor may want to monitor your blood-clotting tests more frequently.
You should let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications to lower your cholesterol. Your doctor needs to know so he or she can determine if the combination of
the prescription tablets and one of those drugs is right for you.
If you are a woman of childbearing age, be sure to tell your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking
the tablets. TriCor should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks and should not be used in nursing mothers. If you plan to breastfeed your baby, be sure to discuss this issue with your doctor.
DO NOT share your Tablets with other people or use it for a nonprescribed condition. If you suspect that you or someone else may have taken more than the prescribed dose, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
