Fluorouracil

Fluorouracil (flure-oh-YOOR-ah-sill) (Brand name: Efudex) is a drug that may be used for skin cancer or sun-damaged skin which may become cancerous. Fluorouracil reacts against the sun-damaged skin but does not usually affect normal skin. It is a cream which is applied to the skin.


Skin conditions using Fluorouracil

Fluorouracil is also occasionally used to treat the following skin conditions: 

* Solar keratoses 
* Superficial basal cell carcinoma 
* Bowen´s disease
* Psoriasis 
* Viral warts 


Possible side effects of Fluorouracil

Your skin may redden, blister and peel where you apply fluorouracil.  Redness may last for several weeks after you stop using fluorouracil.  You also may sunburn easily.

Avoid in pregnancy and with young children.
