Generic Drugs versus Brand Name Drugs
We sell brand name drugs as well as generic drugs. Not all drugs have a generic equivalent. Your pharmacist or doctor can tell you if there is a generic version of the medication you are taking or if there is a medication in the same family of drugs that would be similar.
Health Canada's Therapeutic Products Directorate (TPD) is the Canadian federal authority that regulates pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices for human use. (similar to the FDA in the United States). The TPD and FDA both require that generic drugs have the same active ingredients and quality as brand name drugs.
Generic drugs are essentially copies of brand name drugs whether it is a pill, tablet, capsule or you drink it as a liquid. In some cases, the generic drugs are made by the same brand name company. They just look different or are packaged differently.
