Conjugated
Estrogens
Conjugated Estrogens (Brand name: Premarin) is a female sex hormone used to treat symptoms of menopause; deficiency in ovary function (including underdevelopment of female sexual characteristics and some types of infertility); and degeneration of the vagina. In addition, conjugated estrogens are used to prevent osteoporosis.
What is the effect of Conjugated
Estrogens?
Conjugated Estrogens reduce the symptoms of menopause, including feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest, and the sudden intense episodes of heat and sweating known as "hot flashes."
Along with diet, calcium supplements, and exercise,
Conjugated Estrogen tablets are also prescribed to prevent osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become brittle and easily broken.
Possible side effects of Conjugated
Estrogens
Treatment with conjugated estrogens may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, and blood clots in the lungs or legs. Because of these risks, conjugated estrogens should be prescribed at the lowest effective dose, for the shortest amount of time necessary.
Other, less serious side effects may occur. Consult with your doctor if you experience
* decreased appetite, nausea, or vomiting;
* swollen or tender breasts;
* skin color changes;
* decreased sex drive;
* migraine headaches or dizziness;
* water retention (swollen hands, feet, or ankles);
* changes in menstrual cycle
